International eligibility
From Rugby League Wiki
The regulations concerning international eligibility are the responsibility of rugby league football's world governing body, the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF).[1]
[edit] Criteria
The current rules state that a player is eligible to represent a country if it is:
- "the country in which he was born"[2]
- "the country in which either of his parents or any of his grandparents was born"[2]
- "the country which has been his principal place of residence for a period of three years up to the date of his selection"[2]
- "the country for which he has gained Senior International honours in any sport".[2]
If a player is eligible for more than one country, they can elect which country to represent.[2] Players are bound to the country for which they have declared until the end of the election period, unless an exception is approved by the RLIF.[1]
