"Queenslander" is a rallying cry for the Queensland State of Origin team.[1]

Billy Moore is credited with making the "Queenslander" cry famous.[1] During the 1995 State of Origin series, the Queensland team was lacking many of its established players due to the Super League war.[2] Moore shouted "Queenslander" while in the tunnel at Sydney Football Stadium to motivate his underdog side.[2] Queensland won all three games in the series.[2]

Moore has stated that it was Peter Jackson who taught him about the cry and when to use it.[2] Moore explained: "I fed off his love and passion for Origin. He told me about the Queenslander call and how much it meant to play for Queensland. Every Origin game you get to the stage of fatigue where you think you can't get off the ground to make a tackle or you can't get there to do a hit-up. That was a call that was used to remind you that you had to get up to make the tackle or get to where that play the ball was and take a hit up".[2]

Moore made 17 appearances in State of Origin between 1992 and 1997.[2] Ironically, he was born in Tenterfield, New South Wales.[3]

The "Queenslander" cry has been cited as an example of a difference in mentality between the New South Wales and Queensland teams.[1]

The Lang Park crowd now chants "Queenslander" each year in State of Origin to encourage their team.[3]
