Spine
From Rugby League Wiki
The term spine is used to refer collectively to the playing positions or players that are considered to be most important to a team's performance.[1] The spine positions are usually cited as full back, stand-off half (five-eighth), scrum half and hooker.[2][3]
When commenting on how to improve a team, Tim Sheens said, "They can talk all they like about changing the side, but they have to create a spine. It starts at nine (hooker), you get a seven (scrum half/halfback), you get a six (five-eighth) and a one (full back) and you build around that."[2]
