The Greatest Game of All
From Rugby League Wiki
The Greatest Game of All is a synonym for rugby league football.[1] It is often abbreviated to The Greatest Game or TGG.[1]
Horrie Mille, the NSWRL secretary from 1914 to 1916, is quoted as having used the expression "the greatest game of all".[2] Its use by George Lovejoy,[3] a radio commentator in Brisbane from 1950 to the early 1970s, gave the expression wide exposure.[3]
The sentiment has been widely embraced by the rugby league community.[1][4][5] The Guardian's Martin Kelner noted, "so prevalent is this belief among its adherents that often they just refer to the game as TGG".[1]
In Britain, the Rugby League Supporters' Association published a fanzine titled TGG! quarterly.
